Dual Accounts

Image
If you know me in real life, not just my blog posts, you may follow me on Instagram. If you don’t know me, you might follow me as well and have no idea. You see I have two accounts. One for my personal use, and one for my artwork. This might seem like overkill to some people, but if you look at the Instagram community it makes sense. I have had my personal account for a little over four years now, and it is interesting to look back at my posts. You can see four whole years of my life condensed down to 470 pictures. That might be a slight exaggeration since I do not post daily, but if you think about it that is pretty amazing. If you look clear to the bottom you can almost feel the awkward teenager-ness in the pictures. My art account has been around for slightly over two years nowv and it is interesting to look through too. If you pay attention you can see how my style and skills have changed. You can feel when I was really passionate, and when I did not post much because

The Blue Highlighter: Edition 1

Let me explain the title. Part of my social media class involves posting once a week about what I’ve been reading that week in my textbook, and I always use a blue highlighter in my book. Hence, The Blue Highlighter. I’m sorry, I know I’m not as clever as I think I am, but bear with me! My goal is to talk about one or two of the most interesting things I’ve learned each week, so far I’m hoping I can limit myself to that so we’ll just see how it goes. The textbook I’m working from right now is “ The Art of Social Media” by Guy Kawasaki and Peg Fitzpatrick and it is quite cute. I’m guessing it measures about five by seven inches and it’s actually pretty interesting. So let’s get to it, here are my takeaways from chapters one through four. There is a huge variety of social media etiquette When I started my reading I was astounded by the amount of “rules” that were listed when it comes to life online. Now, of course these are all opinions but I must say, the more I thought

Why I Love Kappa Phi

College is a wonderful time in life. You get to meet a bunch of new people, gain new experiences, and really find yourself as a person. What you choose to do with your time is completely up to you which is great, but also intimidating. It makes you wonder what the best way to spend your limited free time doing is. And it forces you to narrow down what you will be involved in. For me, the best thing I could’ve done my freshman year was join Kappa Phi . If you don’t know, Kappa Phi is a Christian club with 28 chapters at colleges and universities all over the country. Our four pillars are fellowship, service, study and worship and they’re pretty much what we stand for. Fellowship means spending time together and getting to know one another. Service is giving back and helping those around us. Study helps us all to grow in our faith and be better sisters. And worship is our way of refocusing and giving God our time during the week. These elements are the focus of every chapt

My Pinterest Problem

Image
Often times I picture my future self-walking into a support group and saying: Hello, my name is Emily and I’m addicted to Pinterest . I’m serious. As a person who loves to create, it is literally my kryptonite when I have free time. I can spend hours looking at DIY’s, recipes, drawing inspiration, workouts I’ll never do, and everything else you can think of. But today I’ve been pondering if my “problem” is actually a problem, and I’ll tell you my reasons for why I think it’s really not. First of all, Pinterest has saved me a ton of money. When I think back over the few years I’ve been active on the website I remember a lot of instances when I needed a quick fix, or a solution to those things that you just can’t avoid in everyday life. It has taught me that paint chips make great (free!) dorm decorations. How to get grease off your shirt when you spill lettuce wraps all over yourself. And even how to keep raspberries fresh for longer. It is my go-to when I run into an eme
