A Simple Guide to Facebook Scams

At times when I get on Facebook I am very disappointed. Nothing too terrible happens, but I see yet another terrible hoax going around, recently it claims that there has been a change in the Facebook privacy policy. If you fell for it do not feel too stupid because thousands of people do every year. That is why I am here to help, here are the most common online hoaxes you should stop reposting.

Protecting your privacy

This is the post currently plaguing the internet. The basic idea is that you must copy and paste a post in order to protect what you post, the problem is that the people of Facebook do not care. This is a hoax set up just to flood your timeline, it is not an elaborate scam to take your money and the sole purpose is to annoy people.

Facebook will always be free

Look at the homepage if you do not believe me, Facebook is not going to charge users for service. The only way you will ever spend money on the site is if you choose to. The company knows that most people would never pay for the service, Facebook is free and always will be.

Mark Zuckerberg is not giving you money

This scam makes me laugh. These posts claim that Mark Zuckerberg (the creator of Facebook) is giving away parts of his fortune to whoever reposts. The idea of this is kind of ridiculous if you think about it, nobody is going to watch one specific post and keep track of who reposts it so they can cut checks.

Sharing saves lives

The worst part about this scam is that it pulls at your heartstrings. These posts claim that sharing a picture of an injured or ill person will help them get a free operation or save their life in some way. I do not blame Facebook users for feeling bad, but sharing these posts will not help anyone. These are just another way for malicious scammers to clog your timeline, there is no way to track who shares the picture and posting it is not going to save anyone.

If you have fallen for any of these scams do not feel bad, you are not alone. Make a difference and share this blog to help your friends and family learn the truth about what is being posted on their timeline.
