This should be your new hobby.

I have an interest that very few people know about, and that is abandoned and failed businesses. It all started about four years ago when I saw a post on Instagram about River Country.

River Country was a Disney water park that, while loved by many, eventually closed due to many unforeseen circumstances. What really drew me in was the fact that the remnants are still sitting on the Disney World property. It completely blew my mind that a company as renowned as Disney has an abandoned water park sitting in the middle of their amusement park, so I started to do some research to find out more about it.


River Country then and now


It was so interesting learning about the business, economic and tragic events that went into its closure. This research lead me to other abandoned, failed and cancelled Disney projects. Which lead to failed corporate businesses, malls and so on. Now I spend a good amount of my free time watching YouTube videos about places like these.

Bright Sun Films is my favorite channel to watch because the creator (his name is Jake) does not only show the abandoned places, he explains the complete history and eventual downfall of each business. The places I have found most interesting to learn about are Discovery Island, Blockbuster, Circuit City and the Rolling Acres Mall.


If you have even a slight interest in history I highly suggest checking out this little sector of YouTube. It will make you see the world in a much different light.

    Woah. This is really cool Emily! I would've never thought of this but I agree, abandoned buildings and businesses are very interesting. There is an abandoned shopping mall near my home and I am so fascinated by the photos I see from the building. Keep up the cool hobby!

Have you ever thought about how much lettuce you have eaten over the course of your life? As of yesterday I can say I have. In fact I became so interested in the answer that I came up with a way to figure out your (approximate) lettuce count. Here is what I did. First I found out what the serving size of lettuce is. Since there are so many different kinds I decided to use romaine since it is a good middle ground between iceberg and dark greens and I have eaten a variety. It turns out that a serving size is two cups. There are six cups of torn romaine in one head, and there are about 10 leaves per head. This means that a serving size is actually 1.66 leaves. My Pinterest Problem

Often times I picture my future self-walking into a support group and saying: Hello, my name is Emily and I’m addicted to Pinterest . I’m serious. As a person who loves to create, it is literally my kryptonite when I have free time. I can spend hours looking at DIY’s, recipes, drawing inspiration, workouts I’ll never do, and everything else you can think of. But today I’ve been pondering if my “problem” is actually a problem, and I’ll tell you my reasons for why I think it’s really not. First of all, Pinterest has saved me a ton of money. When I think back over the few years I’ve been active on the website I remember a lot of instances when I needed a quick fix, or a solution to those things that you just can’t avoid in everyday life. First impressions of Periscope

Today I heard about a new social media platform that is becoming increasingly popular. It is called Periscope and it is all about live streaming. Launched and acquired by Twitter in 2015, it has been a hit with much of the online community. When you see the homepage you can understand why, it is completely covered in peoples’ unique experiences and talents. After spending just a few minutes on the website I found numerous videos I wanted to watch. It allows you to go live anytime, anywhere. The videos stay on the site for 24 hours and people can replay and give feedback on it, after a day it is taken down. Accounts can be linked to your Twitter account or you can register with your phone number. I really like this aspect of it because it means that you do not get any extra emails and you do not have to create a password. Though I have not spent much time on Periscope yet I plan to check it out more this weekend. If you have used it before or decide to check it out
